Odesza wasn't on my radar.

Like most music in my life, they seemed to just float into my ears just as the culture was about to experience something big. I heard them throughout my yoga journey. Kusanagi would play on repeat at the start or the end of most yoga classes, evoking images of soft floating gold clouds, a pink starry night sky, my body levitating in space, a multidimensional panorama, emotions so palatable they'd rouse a sense of destiny.

I saw them for the first time at the Seattle Climate Pledge Arena two years ago, and then again this past weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Eastern Washington. Between then and now, I experienced a corporate layoff, fell in love, moved to Australia, travelled to India, Greece, Germany, fell out of resonance with my partner, transitioned to teaching yoga and offering sound baths full-time, moved home to my parents, launched Soundflower LLC, and moved out into my very own 1-bedroom (at the Blue Dolphin 🐬 ) a gardenpatch away into Lake Washington... the haven I hoped to harvest for myself.

On the first night of the Last Goodbye Tour Finale, tears streamed down my face an average of five times. The sunset dripped down into the canyon, contouring the orchestra and their instruments on stage in perpetual motion. The animation and stimuli transmitted via the visual graphics, laserbeams, and fireworks made me feel alive, awestruck by thes maestros of sight and sound.

Sounds express, connect, reverberate, penetrating the energetic field "aura" of another evoking a conscious or unconscious dynamic that exists or is yet to be uncovered. Music evokes shared wholeness, enoughness, oneness, like a newborn's cry signaling its health to its mother and nurses or the unanimous cheer of a crowd rooting for their favorite footy match. Yoga translates to yoke or to unite; in music it's harmony. AUM (Om) is the sound of all sounds;the birth of the universe. Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So(l)-La-Si/Ti-Do—the solfège system—solemnizes melody.

Sound in any form can activate a spiritual connection to life and death, bridging the liminal space between time and existence. As a friend shared with me, artists who channel excellence work with blissipline—the joy of being in devotion to one's purpose. Odesza's artistry through blissipline was omnipresent. LIke a field of sunflowers radiating miles towards the sun. There is a devotion in one's craft to help unfurl the layers of decay that can live in one's heart.

What music events might you attend this summer to connect to that childlike wonder?

While soundbaths may not be at the production of an Odesza show (yet...

) the pangs of emotion that surged through me have been synonymous experiences of joy and bliss.

Here is a list of soundflower events surfacing:
